Awaken The Mind
Knowledge Bookstore - Short Story Contest

Awaken the Mind Short Story Contest

The Awaken the Mind Short Story Contest presented by Knowledge Bookstore, PoeticSoul and SankofaInCipher is a short story contest, which is intended for Canadian authors of African descent. Knowledge Bookstore located in Brampton is one of the leading retailers of Afro centric literature in Canada committed to highlighting the importance of literacy through stimulating books. While PoeticSoul Literary Journal (poeticsoul.ca) is a publication dedicated to highlighting a diverse arts community through event coverage, artist features and the publishing of artistic work in its literary journal. SankofaInCipher is a for profit organization dedicated to the development of Afrikan people everywhere.

The Awaken the Mind Short Story Contest was created to promote literacy in the Black community and to connect writers and readers by publishing exceptional stories. The aim is also to provide a foundation that will nurture and encourage the art of the written word by giving Canadian authors of African descent a platform for recognition and reward. The entry fee is $10 for each story and the winners will be awarded $500 in cash prize.

Knowledge Bookstore, PoeticSoul and SankofaInCipher believe the Awaken the Mind Short Story Contest will help to spread the importance of writing and literacy to the youth within the GTA. It is a fact that proficient writing and reading skills are essential to effective communication. With today’s youth propensity towards violent and non-verbal interaction as a means to solve problems the need to read and write well is of the utmost importance.

The Awaken the Mind Short Story Contest is an annual contest, which will further expose the budding artwork from the ethnic and urban communities and the companies that support the literary movement. The contest begins April 1, 2007 and ends October 1, 2007. Awaken the Mind welcomes short story entries from all across Canada. For further details and guidelines visit www.knowledgebookstore.com, call 905-459-9875 or email shortstorycontest@knowledgebookstore.com.
