There is a possibility that the people of upper Egypt were descendants of settlers from the South - Eastern parts of the Sudan, and Naville and Maspero believed that the Egyptians and the people of Punt belonged to the same race. Punt was a country near Somaliland and many dynastic Egyptians regarded it as their original home. The long plaited beards of the Egyptian Gods resemble those worn by the men of Punt and certain funerary ceremonies were of Puntite origin.
