Grann et moi, l'été de mes 11 ans

Eleven-year-old Gabrielle is getting ready to start secondary school and thinking about her new wardrobe. One day, during a presentation, a classmate makes a hurtful remark about Haiti. Gabrielle realises that she only knows this country through her parents' stories, while her classmates only know it through television. Her father suggests that she spend the summer with her grandmother in the countryside, on the island where part of her family was born. It is a beautiful introduction to the discovery of Haiti and the importance of passing on the knowledge of our elders. Gabrielle's adventure is a gentle story that unravels the preconceptions we may have about a country rich in culture and history, a form of autofiction about a hoped-for, almost dreamlike journey.
